Floyd provides peer 
counseling as well as several other services





Counseling and peer support are provided to assist individuals, couples, families and groups with disability related issues. Consumers are offered support to help with various aspects of disabilities as it affects their daily lives.

Support Group for People with Disabilities, Family and Friends


It is important to know that you are not alone and that there are others who are experiencing or have experienced similar challenges. We would like to bring our constituents together and provide you with a common platform to share your issues. Having a disability can add a lot of stress onto a person's life. This group is new and we would like your feedback and suggestions at floyd_s@tndisability.org.

We meet monthly, the 4th Thursday from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Center for Independent Living of Middle Tennessee, 955 Woodland St.

Spinal Cord Injury Peer Support Group


What is it?


A group of people with Spinal Cord Injuries, or illnesses with similar symptoms, that meets once a month to discuss various topics related to living with a SCI. Family members and caregivers are welcome.

Why discuss it?


The purpose is for people to share experiences and knowledge with one another in order to help each other achieve maximum independence.

What will be discussed?


August 16th Our speaker will be Tria Bridgeman, who is with Center for Independent Living of Middle Tennessee (CILMT) and currently working under a cooperative agreement with the Social Security Administration. She will be discussing Social Security benefits, discussing the impact of how work and earnings, while on SSI/SSDI benefits, effect the individual. Additionally she will explain safety nets and benefit management plans that could be put into place as the individual develops a plan for transitioning to employment.

The CILMT Benefits Planning and Assistance Program is about establishing partnerships that enhance the self-sufficiency and economic wellness of beneficiaries and recipients, while at the same time supporting their employment interests.

What time?


The group will meet from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.

When?


Every 3rd Wednesday evening of the month.

Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation Hospital
2201 Children's Way
(Directly across the street from Vanderbilt Children's Hospital)

. . . . Somebody who knew what it was like to live with a brain injury?

. . . . Somebody who could relate to the changes that have occurred in your life and the lives of your family?

Well, we may know just the person.

The Brain Injury Association of Tennessee has mentors who are available to offer support, understanding and education about issues of brain injury and everyday life. Mentors provide this support through scheduled telephone contact. Mentors are trained volunteers who have been affected by brain injury. Mentors provide assistance to people with brain injuries and their family members.
