Independent Living Skills
Independent Living Skills training assists consumers in learning what is needed to live more independently. Consumers learn new ways to take control over their lives through skill development and increased knowledge. Areas addressed are selected by the consumer and may include learning about community resources, self-advocacy, and managing a household or personal assistant.
Currently, our two standardized programs require referral from Vocational Rehabilitation or Ticket Assignment. These programs are:
Computer Class (Information Technology Training Initiative)
ITTI augments the vocational outlook and community participation of individuals with disabilities by providing an introduction to computing including learning Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, and the Internet. Instruction is available for qualifying individuals in a classroom setting and utilizes any necessary assistive technology.
Personal Care Attendant Management Training
This is a pilot project to develop and demonstrate the advantages of individuals with disabilities managing their own attendants in an employer/ employee relationship. This pilot is focusing on college students who need personal care attendance. Please speak to VR to see if you are eligible to participate. We also extend this training on a one-to-one basis with individuals who do not qualify for the pilot, but need advisement on how to manage their PCA.
Additional Independent Living Skills Training
Additional Independent Living Skills training is available on a one-to-one basis. Classroom sessions can be developed as individuals with similar needs are identified for participation.
