Housing staff help consumers in finding and keeping affordable and accessible housing. Staff provide information about rental assistance programs and resources for emergency move-in costs, utility discount programs and benefits information such as GA and SSI/SS. They also maintain current housing listings and contact with local property owners as well as make referrals to emergency shelters when necessary. Center for Independent Living of Middle Tennessee staff help consumers with disability rights related to housing by providing information about local, state and federal fair housing laws, referrals to legal agencies, help with writing letters to landlords and agencies, negotiating with property owners and other steps related to housing needs.
